What it tests
The positions of the hour and minute hands on a clock are determined by uniform circular motion, but at different rates: the minute hand completes a full revolution every 60 minutes, while the hour hand does so every 12 hours. The key is that the hour hand moves continuously, not just in jumps at each hour mark. To find the angle between the hands at any time, you must calculate each hand's position as a function of time, then take their difference. The underlying structure is linearity: both hands' positions are linear in time, but with different slopes.
