Here, every operation either removes an equal number of red and black cards (in mixed pairs) or allocates equal-sized pairs to the respective piles, preserving the difference between the counts. The invariance arises because the only way for a pile to gain cards is through pairs of the same color, and the discards always maintain the balance between red and black cards. This structural constraint forces the final counts to be equal, regardless of the order in which pairs are drawn.
