This classic continuous probability question is about modeling uniform randomness over a geometric region and interpreting that in terms of areas. What it tests

When a point is chosen uniformly at random from a continuous region, the probability that it lands in a particular subregion is given by the ratio of the subregion's measure (such as area or length) to the total measure of the region. This principle arises because uniform randomness means every infinitesimal part of the region is equally likely to be chosen, so the likelihood of landing in any specific part is proportional to its size. For circular or annular regions, this means calculating the area of each relevant section, often by subtracting the area of an inner circle from that of an outer circle. The key is recognizing that the geometry of the region directly determines the probability distribution, not the distances or radii themselves but the measures they define.
